"Does an electric drill damage my natural nail bed or leave red groove rings when clearing cuticles?"
Rings of fire occur when an untrained technician holds a carbide or rough bit perpendicular to the nail plate, grinding into the dorsal keratin layer. At Cosmetiva, we use fine-grit diamond flame and ball bits manufactured in Europe, held strictly parallel at a 0-to-10 degree angle against the plate. The rotational speed is regulated on a digital brushless micromotor between 10,000 and 14,000 RPM.
The diamond bit makes physical contact only with dead pterygium and keratinized dry proximal skin. It never touches or cuts the live eponychium vascular tissue. By gently lifting the cuticle pocket on dry skin, the dead cuticle rolls off naturally like fine dry powder. The underlying natural nail plate remains completely smooth, intact, and free from gouges or thinning.
